However, companies that do not upgrade their internet connection could be left struggling. Sean Hargrave finds out.

Is 2010 the year SMEs fully embrace cloud computing? A year or so ago, the term ‘cloud computing’ was by no means mainstream. While it has certainly been a topic favoured among IT professionals for the last few years – the so-called “next big thing” in technology that could spur a whole new decade of growth – it was only in the latter part of 2009 that it started to gather pace and enter day to day business vocabulary.
Credit where it’s due - cashing in on the referral economy Personal recommendations and referrals are not only an important part of the sales process but are also key to building a good reputation and a solid network. For small businesses, and start-ups in particular, who have yet to build the recognised brands or sophisticated sales processes of their larger counterparts, referrals can account for a large proportion of their overall lead generation and new business contacts.
Why the internet is the greatest lifeline for SMEs In the second half of 2008, the UK officially entered recession. Many have been looking back to the end of the last recession in the early nineties to see what positive lessons can be learned and the most striking difference is undoubtedly the fact that we now live in a wholly connected, global digital age.
Soaring across the Regions: A view of the impact of the Internet on business Despite becoming more reliant on their internet connection, a large proportion of UK SMEs are not implementing policies to manage non-essential, personal use of the internet at work. This latest research, 'Soaring across the Regions', seeks to better understand how internet usage by SMEs differs across the UK.
